Please continue to check Aspire Gradebook weekly, and as regularly as possible with your child, to help them understand what it means to be proactive and  to be responsible. Our goal is to help them to be life-long learners with the skills they need, and to take ownership of their own learning.

Math   

We will start our unit on how to multiply multi-digit whole numbers and decimal numbers. The next two week, students will learn how to multiply whole numbers with 3-digits by 1-digit, 4-digits by 1-digit, 2 digits by 2-digits, 3-digits by 2 digits, 4-digit by 2-digit, 3 digits by 3-digits. It is essential for students to know their multiplication facts fluently in order to compute multiplication math problems.

WIGS 

For our Math Wildly Important Goals  (WIGS), students will have multiplication fact quizzes on 11s and 12s this week. Please practice with your child at home. We have made Fortune Tellers to practice Multiplication Facts 0-12 in class. Students can also practice on http://www.multiplication.com/  or Math Drill App. (Please see the link, "5th grade Math Resources," on my blog.)

"Fact Families Booklet" & "Multiplications Fortune Tellers" are both due this week on Tuesday, October 3.

Science 

This week, we will learn about how volcanoes, earthquakes, and uplift affect Earth's surface and how does deposition change the Earth's Crust.

peninsula: a strip of land that is surrounded by water on three sides

isthmus: a narrow strip of land that connects two large areas of land

plateau: a large area of flat land that is higher than land around it

delta: a triangular shape of land that forms at the mouth of a river, where the river flows into an ocean, sea or other body of water
