OPA2017-18 Week#13 Nov.13-17

Dear Parents and Students:

The Elementary Thanksgiving at OPA is a community dinner that brings all of our families and friends together. This year, it is scheduled on Friday, November 17th.  5th Graders will have Thanksgiving Lunch from 12:40 to 1:10 p.m. The cost per adult is $3.00.  Please contact me, if you are interested in volunteering,  such as serving, cleaning-up, etc.

There is no school next week. School will resume on Monday, Nov. 27.  Enjoy the time with your family and friends.  I wish everyone a relaxing and safe Thanksgiving Break.  Happy Thanksgiving to all!!


Math

This week, students will learn how to divide 3-digit or 4-digit dividends with 2-digit divisors (Whole numbers & Decimals.) 

Widely Important Goals (WIGs) for 5th Graders-Division Facts: Our goal is 80% of 5th grade students will achieve at least 80%, or better on their division facts. This week, students will have Division Facts Quizzes on 3s and 4s. Please practice with your child at home.


Science 

This week, students will learn the following concepts:

A. Compare the total weight of an object to the weight of its individual parts after being disassembled.

B. Compare the weight of a specified quantity of matter, before and after it undergoes melting or freezing.

C. Investigate the results of the combined weights of a liquid and a solid, after the solid has been dissolved and then recovered from the liquid (e.g., salt dissolved in water then water evaporated.)
