OPA 2017-18 Week#2 Aug. 28-Sept.1

“Leadership is unlocking people’s potential to become better.” ----Bill Bradley

Dear Parents and Students,

What a great first week of school to start the year! Thank you so much for your donations to our classroom. I also appreciated your taking your time to help your child gather photos of themselves to share with me in class. The project of Multiple Intelligence Silhouettes have helped me to understand your child's strengths and get to know them better. Thank you.

This year we are emphasizing school-wide expectations: Be Safe, Be Prepared, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible. Students are responsible to get their planner signed by their parents daily and turn in their work on time to their classes. As stated in the disclosure statement,  Late work will receive half credit. Students will have one week from the date of assignment to turn in late work. After which, zero points will be assigned.

Please check Aspire Gradebook online weekly at home, and as regularly as possible with your child, to teach them to be responsible, and to take ownership of their learning. Students will also have opportunities to log-in to Aspire and check their grade weekly in Math/Science class. Students will learn how to log in and access Aspire this week.

If students don't have an ASPIRE account, please click the link below for steps for creating an account in ASPIRE: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0ALqEOaTg82fBUk9PVA

Math

This week, we will review multiplication facts, place value chart, and math vocabulary words on operations and the concept for multiple and factors. Please have your child bring  ADs to class for the upcoming place value project.

We will use Prodigy to practice math skills and concepts that we learned in math class. Please include Prodigy Math games in your child's daily math homework routine for 20 minutes. Students will learn how to log in and access Prodigy at school and at home this week in class.

OPA students have their own student account to log in to Prodigy.

To earn an Aguilas of Excellence reward day, students must demonstrate “Above the Bar” achievement in three areas: attendance, grades, and behavior. "Above the Bar" criteria is defined as follows:
  • Attendance: Students must have fewer than 2 absences and no unexcused tardies within the tracking period. (Field trips do not count as absences for Aguilas of Excellence.)
  • Grades: All grades must be 73% (C) or higher at the end of the tracking period. If students are absent or on a field trip, they are still expected to keep their grades within this range.
  • Behavior: Students must have zero detentions within the tracking period.
Please note, there is a 4-5 day delay between the date this data is pulled and the actual reward day. This delay is necessary to assign reward rooms, plan activities, and allow students to sign up. Students must have "Above the Bar" qualifications on the day the data is pulled, to attend a reward room.
